Friendship, Family, and more...

As most of you know Olsa, Najada and I are in Albania for the next three weeks. We spent the first day with one of Olsa's best friends and her family. Her along with Olsa's uncle met us at the airport when we arrived. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they all reconnect after being absent, physically, from one another for over three years. From the moment they saw each other, they hugged, kissed and shed some tears, then the conversations started and and have not stopped since. Except for sleep, I think.

This got me thinking about relationships and how they truly make life worth living. Many of these people I have only met or seen six times and have spent very little time with, but they treat me as family all because of their relationship with Olsa. This should be a signal to those out there who think that life can successfully be lived alone. Now I am not referring to whether one gets married or not, I am referring to deep personal relationships that can obviously happen in or out of marriage.

Jesus, especially in the book of John, spoke about the importance of friendship. Paul, modeled excellent friendship in his relationship with Barnabas. So it seems to be a reality that friendship is something that we should all seek to have, both as the giver and receiver of the blessings.

The Friday night we arrived here, we all went out and sat on the balcony of a nice restaurant and had an excellent meal. I could not help but get caught up in the wonderful time everyone was having, even though I could not hardly keep up with the conversation. I sat back at one point and peered out into the night sky, looking at the stars. As the laughter roared around me I thought of many of you at home who I a proud to call my friends. I look forward to see you again or hearing from you again in a few weeks. If you are devoid of any real relationships its time to start building them because life is much better with them.
