Every year as March begins I jump into the fray with the masses and print off a bracket and fill it out. I felt fairly confident going into the first round. Then some Cinderella's started dancing, and everything went down hill from there. Last night when Duke lost it was the nail in the coffin of my bracket. I picked Duke (a shout out to my brother) to win the championship. Oh well, there is always next year!
I am beginning to take a liking to the Butler team. I really enjoyed their run last year and I hope they go all the way this year, but no I did not pick them. I enjoy seeing a young coach doing great things with his team. Looking at the two teams in last years championship, they were quite opposites. Coach K at Duke, a national powerhouse, goes out and selects from the best of the best to fill the open slots on his team. He has the luxury of picking and choosing.
In contrast, Coach Stevens from Butler, has to take what he has and make a championship contender out of them. And he does. Life is very much so like that for us. Rarely do all the cards fall our direction, and so we must play with the hand that has been dealt us. For church that means we learn to live with each others oddities and work together. Too often we choose the easy way out and go somewhere else. Too often we fight instead of compromise. Too often we abandon our calling for our comfort!
What's that sound? That's the sound of my shredder disposing of my bracket. Thankfully opening day of baseball season is just 6 days away! Go RED SOX!
