I hope you are still praying for little Caleb Brown, the progress is slow and this must be terrible for his parents. So continue praying.
Right now I getting out every morning and walking a mile and a half or so. I generally walk a mile and then I go get Jake, my dog, and walk him. I would like to think that I have a good bit of patience, but walking my dog drains it all away. He is not wild nor does he fight against the collar and leash, but he likes to pull a lot. It struck me today as I was walking him that he is never satisfied. I walked him for a few weeks and I got tired of him pulling so I decided I would shorten the leash and teach him to walk at my side.
I tried this for a week and finally got tired of having sore arm from him straining against me. So I have gone back to letting him strain at the end of the leash. I watched him as we walked today and noticed that he was always straining to sniff past the end of his reach. He is never satisfied to look and sniff around in the five foot radius around me. No matter how I scold him or pull on the leash he never quits straining.
I wonder if we are not like that sometimes. Now I don't think God is up there with a leash pulling us back from the edge, but I wonder if sometimes we just are not satisfied. God has created us for a place and a time. He created us with his goal in mind and sometimes we miss his plan because we are so intent on getting more. Either life is about getting more or working for the future. There seems to be little comprehension that maybe today is what we should be living in and for.
When our jobs become about saving for retirement and paying the bills we miss everyday chances to be the presence of God in this fallen world. When any activity becomes about us and what we can accomplish or achieve, God and his purposes are lost. So I encourage you to slow down. Slow down and see who God has put in your life at work, or at play or at church that needs you to be present for them. This requires that we practice one of the most basic tenants of Christianity, selflessness.
As we learn to practice and embrace a self emptying way of life God will be able to use us. He will draw us along and use us in his ministry of reconciliation. He will allow us to help him redeem this world.

Hmmmmm...sounds like something our Lord says in Matthew 6. Always a helpful thing to be reminded that living for today is all we need and all we can handle.
