Those of you in middle Tennessee have probably heard about little Caleb and the horrible accident. In case you have not, Caleb and his family were hiking a few weeks ago at Fall Creek Falls. While they were hiking a rock/boulder fell and hit Caleb in the head. He received some severe trauma to his head. He is currently in a hospital in Chattanooga making small strides. Caleb's parents have set up a Facebook page where continuous updates are posted.
It may go without saying but his situation is quite severe so please pause now and pray. I can also only imagine how utterly terrifying this must be for all involved. Shortly after my accident I had to undergo surgery on my left foot. I awoke after that surgery to find my self restrained to the hospital bed and with a breathing tube down my throat. I do not mind telling you that I was scared. I remember seeing Olsa and my dad at my bed side and feeling a certain amount of calm.
Though my and Caleb's situations are different, they have kept him heavily sedated because of his injuries. Every day they are withdrawing the sedating medicine so he will wake up and the doctors will be able to assess the extent of his brain injury. Without speaking to the injuries he has, this process of waking up for him will be extremely difficult for many reasons. He will be hooked up to monitors and IV's. There is probably a breathing tube in his throat to help him breathe. Not to mention the injuries he will be dealing with. The trauma will be just as intense for his mom and dad as they have to watch, helplessly, as their baby suffers.
Some may ask, where is God in all of this? Why has he not acted? Could you imagine going through such an event without God? Can you imagine going through such an event without God's people at your side and praying constantly for you? I cannot, and I have walked some of this road. So if this is the first you have heard about Caleb stop and pray. Join the ranks of those who are kneeling before the Father and petitioning for God to stay with this family. To be in that room with the mom and dad, and to be in that bed with Caleb. To continue to heal little Caleb. Will you?
