Go Read Something

I really enjoy reading! It does seems strange for me to write this given the fact that in high school I could really care less about reading anything but the comics in the Sunday paper. Now that I have grown up and have become more refined ;-) I find myself reading all the time. I read in several different mediums, online I read the news, the sports and occasionally comics. I read theological magazines, sports magazines, I read almost exclusively theological books, save for some science fiction thrown in. I read many blogs and get a lot of informative newsletters sent to my inbox daily. I only wish someone had helped me enjoy reading a little more when I was a kid.

One of the bloggers I read regularly is Patrick Mead. Patrick is the preaching minister at Rochester Church of Christ in Rochester Michigan. Olsa has family up there so I get to hear him preach about once a year. He posted a blog recently that I think all should read about, well about reading. You can find it HERE. I am struck by how many people do not ever pick up a book. Now let's put this in perspective; I recently came in contact with an impressive couple that are doing great things in Afghanistan. They began an organization called the Lamia Afghan Foundation, you can view their website HERE.

They have a powerful story to tell about young kids growing up in Afghanistan with no access to educational material, but with a great desire to learn. They saw this need and are now seeking to fill it. All the while we sit here with tremendous access to libraries and bookstores yet somewhere between 35-52% of us have no desire to read. I guess we all know that this means that half of us never crack open the Bible either.

I am constantly on the look out for what I will be reading next. On the side panel of this blog you can see what I am reading, what I have read, and also what I recommend to read. I have at least five more books I want to read and just ordered seven books for classes this semester, and that does not even include all my classes, but this excites me! If you go to Amazon and look in the wish list section, and you search under my name you will find 15-20 books I want. Reading is such a blessing to me. It is through reading the Bible that I can wander through the beautiful imagery of God, through books I can experience the wisdom of others and the emotions of living life. I just struggle with how to pass this along, so go read a book, it will do you a world of good!
